Ministry to Young Adults in Their 20s

The data is clear: After high school, many young adults in WELS feel disconnected from the church. They’ve aged out of youth group but don’t yet fit with young families. For some, college campus ministries provide support—but for many others, especially those not attending college, church becomes a distant memory. This group is often spiritually adrift—and often unnoticed.

This session explores how to bridge that gap and build a vibrant, gospel-centered ministry for young adults in their 20s. Participants will learn how to create meaningful community, mentoring relationships, and social connection. We’ll explore how to equip young adults to serve in ways that matter and how to address the spiritual questions that define this life stage—identity, purpose, belonging, and faith in a post-Christian world. We’ll also discuss how churches can support young adults as they navigate career decisions, dating, friendships, and independence—helping them see the church not as their parents’ faith but as their spiritual home. Whether your congregation has one young adult or one hundred, this session offers tools to connect, disciple, and care well.

Rev. Clark Schultz’s ministry has included vicaring in the shadows of Lambeau Field at St. Mark, Green Bay, Wis. He then supervised the dorms for two years at Luther Preparatory School, was missionary pastor at Risen Savior in Cedar Grove, and then traveled the globe as the Luther Prep recruiter. Five years ago, he took a call back to the parish after finishing his 14th year teaching at Lakeside Lutheran High School, Lake Mills, Wis., where he taught 10th grade religion, coached boys’ soccer, and directed the spring drama productions. One of his biggest joys was to encourage teens to consider ministry.

Clark loves spending time with his wife, Kristin, and their three young boys: Ian, Lincoln, and Nolan. He has authored a teen devotional entitled Five-Minute Bible Studies for Teens and has written devotions for Time of Grace Ministry.

Clark’s presentation will begin with the encouragement he gives youth in their teen years to keep them engaged as young adults. Joining him in his session will be two young adults from Shepherd of the Hills, West Bend, Wis., who will share what makes their faith and worship a priority.
