Making a Kingdom Impact with Limited Resources
Being a small church doesn’t mean having a small mission. In fact, smaller congregations can leverage unique strengths—close relationships, agile decision-making, and a strong sense of community—to make a powerful gospel impact. This session equips leaders of small churches—whether rural, suburban, or urban—to maximize their mission potential without overextending their people or budgets.
Participants will learn how to focus on high-impact ministry opportunities; develop a clear sense of mission; and creatively leverage their time, talents, and treasures for kingdom growth. We’ll explore practical strategies for outreach, discipleship, volunteer mobilization, and partnership with other churches. Whether you have a part-time pastor, a small core group, or limited funding, you can still have a vibrant, faithful, and fruitful ministry. Small doesn’t mean insignificant—it means focused.
Rev. Wayne Uhlhorn has served as a mission counselor for WELS Home Missions since 2021. He works with the four district mission boards to research, help launch, and counsel new home mission churches. He has served four congregations in his 35 years of ministry, from North Dakota to Baltimore, Md.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Carlsbad, Calif. The church he served in Colorado Springs was a mission restart, and during his 15 years there, they were blessed to be able to explore Hispanic outreach, start a preschool, and launch a new mission church in northeast Colorado Springs. He also previously served as chairman of the Colorado District Mission Board (nine years), executive committee member for the Board for Home Missions (nine years), and chairman of the Board for Home Missions (five years).
